New Activated Carbon Fiber Sterilization Effect Is Magical

September 07, 2022

The Institute of Materials Science, Feng Chia University in Taiwan, China has successfully developed a new type of activated carbon fiber. The test found that the use of a layer of this fiber filter cloth material can filter and resist 100 % of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. The rate of elimination of K. pneumoniae is above 99.99 %. After being placed for one year, the sterilization effect is still reduced.

Scientists at Feng Chia University pointed out that the previous activated carbon fiber cloth allowed the bacteria to adsorb and fix on the fiber. After a few hours, the carbon fiber could exert its antibacterial effect. The chemical properties of the new generation of activated carbon fiber filter cloth allow the bacteria to be killed as if they stepped on land mines. The uniqueness of the new activated carbon fiber filter fabric is that it can be repeatedly cleaned more than 100 times, and its life span is as long as 3 to 5 years. It is better to use as a mask than a disposable N 95 mask. The inhibition and killing functions of such fiber cloths against other bacteria have yet to be tested. It is reported that only Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, China mainland and Taiwan Province of China have active carbon fiber manufacturing technologies.
